When the computer finished booting, the Network Magic icon in my systray was grayed out. When I clicked on the grayed out Network Magic icon, a box appeared that stated, 'The platform service is not running.' I tried restarting it from that box ('Try restarting the platform service') but it did not restart. Instead I got an error box again stating that 'Pure Networks Platform Service encountered a problem and needs to close.'
It was followed by another smaller error box stating: “Platform Service Error. The Platform could not be restarted. System error: “ There was nothing after the initial quote marks.
I then followed the procedure from your “Knowledge Base” at the page, “The Pure Networks Platform Service Is Not Running.” 1) I ran the Windows Installer Cleanup. The only relevant entry listed there was Cisco Network Magic (Network Magic, Pure Networks Platform and Speed Meter Pro were not listed there.) So, I removed Cisco Network Magic from that screen. 2) I then added my own step.
I went to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel of Windows and Network Magic was listed there. I then clicked the “Remove” button but nothing happened.
3) I then downloaded the “Platform Cleanup Tool, unzipped it and ran Clean.cmd. A black box opened and various steps occurred. When it was finished, I was not asked to reboot my computer. 4) I then downloaded Network Magic from your download site. I right clicked on the NMsetup.exe file and chose “Run as.” A box opened with the choice of running the program as the current user or as the administrator.
When I chose run as the current user, nothing happened other than a small blank box appeared with an OK button which I clicked. I then right clicked again on the NMsetup.exe file and chose to run it as the administrator. After about 75% of the “Install Platform Service” completed, a message box appeared stating, “Pure Networks (or some such thing – my phrase) encountered a problem and needs to close. “ Nevertheless the installation continued and completed. When I rebooted I still had the same problem I had before I started all of these steps. The Network Magic icon is grayed out in the systray.
Again I tried restarting the Platform Service from the screen that appeared when I clicked on the Network Magic icon in my systray, but it still didn’t work. 1) How do I get Network Magic to work properly again? 2) Once Network Magic is working, do I have to renter my activation code? On reboot, go back to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall Spysweeper. Reboot the computer. Use your Registry Cleaner or go to and download a 30-Day Trial of Tuneup Utilities 2009 and run its Registry Cleaner. Reboot the computer. Reinstall Network Magic. Use the other computer on the Network to reactivate Network Magic.
